My Bio
Music
I've played and written music all my life. The piano was
my first instrument, followed by guitar.
For a while now I've been learning the Chapman Stick. It is a
10-stringed electronic instrument that combines low strings like
those on a bass guitar and high strings like those on an electric
guitar. It is played by tapping on the strings with fingers from both
hands. Click here for a picture of the
instrument.
Education
I had the great fortune to go to Stanford University
where I took degrees in economics (BA) and engineering (MS), and managed to learn
a few things about philosophy, technology, and business along the way.
Professional
I am Director of R&D for
Ria Financial Services, one of the
world's foremost money transfer companies.
Previously I was VP of Engineering for RapidMoney Corporation.
I helped start this company in 1999 after having spent the previous 12 years
developing secure payment systems and creating various object-oriented
software.
Technical
I am a
Smalltalk
bigot simply because it is a joy to develop software that way.
If you don't have the religion, I won't hold it against you, but
do try
Squeak Smalltalk
and have fun.
Recreational
As it says on the home page, I live for beach volleyball and surfing. I love things that fly:
birds, sailplanes, kites, rockets, frisbees. Only under very rare circumstances will I turn down
a game of chess.
